Flow

You know that mystical state where everything serendipitously falls into place at the perfect moment, time slows down, everything becomes vivid, and life feels like it is conspiring in your favor? Yep. That's it. We've all had such an experience, but unfortunately for many it is a fleeting one. However, I believe that this 'mystical' state is actually how life is supposed to be...and it has become my lives work to help clients find their way back to flow...

Flow Philosophy

First, let's distinguish between the two types of flow...

1. Mihlay Csikszentmihalyi, a brilliant psychologist, coined the term 'flow' in the late 1960s amid the largest happiness study to date (surveying over 10,000 participants). He found that not only are the best 'flow hackers' the happiest people on earth, but they are also the best at transforming challenging situations into epiphanies. He describes flow as a state of hyper-awareness, where learning is accelerated, energy is used efficiently, synergy between the mind and body leads to almost superhuman levels of performance and creativity, time slows down, and our sense of self vanishes.

2. The taoist concept of flow is called 'Wu Wei,' which loosely translates as effortless living. This type of flow is a way of life that encourages us to ebb and flow with the innate cycles of the natural world characterized by ease and mindfulness. It invites us to stay in alignment with source and live by non-reactivity. This should not be confused with laziness, but simply having control over the way you react. We cannot choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we react to what happens to us.
